Civic Spark joins on the farm for MLK Service Day

On Monday January 19th, Three Sisters Gardens had the pleasure of hosting CivicSpark fellows at our 5th & C Farm in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. The crew helped with mulching walkways with woodchips, composting, harvesting (radishes, lettuce, and kale), and weeding.

“CivicSpark Fellows assist in building local workforce capacity to respond to community identified priorities on a variety of local issues such as disaster preparedness and response, water, natural resource management, housing, economic development, transportation and infrastructure, parks and recreation, public health and community engagement. Fellows work for up to 11 months and complete research, planning and implementation projects for their communities and lead volunteer engagement activities.”

“Three Sisters Garden was amazing to work with! I loved how passionate they were about food access, and that passion shined through the beautiful urban farms. Working with them made me hopeful for the future of food access in Sacramento, and they inspired me to continue reconnecting with the earth to grow food and help build a resilient community.”
