Summer Youth Program Updates
This summer Three Sisters Gardens had the honor of hosting 10 interns in our Urban Agriculture Youth Leadership Development Program! With over 30 applicants this round, we are thrilled to continue to offer this program as we grow into the next season of 2023.

Our Youth Program is part lecture-style curriculum, part hands-on activities, and full of community building and fun! The curriculum was designed by our Farm Manager, John Palagud, a Sustainable Agriculture graduate from UC Davis. Not only do our Youth Interns learn hands-on farm skills, but they also have the opportunity to learn why these skills are important and necessary.

Some example topics include:
Crop propagation
Water management
Hoop house management
Soil science
Composting

Our Youth Leadership Development Program also includes field trips! Last week, our Interns and Staff traveled to the Oak Park Eggery and Tanama Gardens to learn about permaculture. They learned about the role of chickens in urban composting and got to meet some feathery friends. Through trips like these we hope our Youth Interns can be inspired to revitalize spaces in their communities to build a better future for all inhabitants and the planet.
The success of our Youth Program shows the essential need for workforce development and community-building programs in the Broderick area. Your support -- whether it's through donations, volunteering, or a CSA subscription -- help ensure that we can keep providing programs like these. Stay tuned for more program updates and upcoming opportunities!
