Compost, Crops & Community: TSG Fall Skills Share Recap

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, TSG brought the community together for a hands-on, heart-filled Fall Skills Share! We kicked things off with an opening circle led by Director, Alfred Melbourne, followed by a mini farm tour with Farm Hand Isaac Fraijo. 🌱

Throughout the day, attendees got their hands dirty with workshops on:

🥦 Fall & Winter Crops with Kat Burce
🥕 Turning Beds with Kris Burce & Jerry Fraijo
🔥 Hot Composting with Alejandro Resendiz & Kenny McDowell
🪱 Vermicomposting (hello worms!) with Chloe Sullivan
🥒 Food Preservation – because good food shouldn’t go to waste!

Together, we learned what thrives in the cool season—think carrots, beets, lettuce, broccoli, and sugar snap peas. We even transformed a watermelon bed into a cozy new home for cabbage, planting transplants and direct-seeding carrots for a perfect veggie duo.

After that? We turned scraps and spoiled produce into gold for the soil through hot composting and worm-powered vermicomposting. Talk about full-circle farming!

And of course, no TSG gathering is complete without sharing a meal. Huge thanks to Chef Pau for closing out the day with a delicious, farm-to-fork feast featuring butternut squash soup and handmade gnocchi.

If you attended, we would love to hear about your experience on the farm. Please take a second to fill out the quick feedback form. Any feedback helps us to continue to bring free educational events like this to the community.

Be sure to catch us at the next Skills Share!
